Space shuttle Atlantis lands for the last time
how sad that we are letting the shuttle program end with no replacements in sight. I hate the fact that the USA is basically out of the space business. Very shortsighted IMHO

I thought I heard something about how the Obama administration reversed their position and they were funding new travel methods.
@godfatherofgreenbay - I don't know anything about that but by September ( I think) we'll have nothing. It will be YEARS before there is anything flyable unless they extend the shuttles. Could be dangerous to do though - I think they are pretty much used up. I don't even know that they can make the parts they need for them anymore.
I know that the article I read talked about how they were looking at alternative fuels and how the experts didn't think that they would be powerful enough to get ships into space. And CNN had the designs and they looked like the old ships from the 60s and 70s before we had the shuttles.
